Line Drawing Symbols, such as the images purchased from Mayer-Johnson, are used to help individuals  communicate. Like other symbols they represent an object or idea. These symbols may be used in picture exchange or displays( Downing et al. 2015 p 142). 

Our picture demonstrates a picture exchange.  By giving the other person the picture of the pretzel he is communicating his desire for a pretzel.
